Why build with a Kathmandu software company?

Kathmandu is Nepal's technology hub, with strong engineering talent and English as the working language of almost every software team here. On cost, we would rather you checked than took a number on faith: our prices are published, starting at NPR 25,000 for a brochure site and $3,000 for a custom web application. Compare those against quotes you hold. AntByte Labs pairs that with senior engineers, fortnightly demos, and full source-code ownership, whether you are a Kathmandu business or an overseas team looking for a Nepal partner.

What to check before you hire

Most people searching this are trying to pick between several companies, not read about one. So here is the checklist we would use, including the things that go wrong specifically in Nepal. It applies whether or not you end up talking to us.

Who actually writes your code

Agencies win work with a senior and staff it with juniors. Ask who is on your project by name, how long they have been shipping, and whether that changes after the contract is signed.

Ownership at handover

The source code in your repository, the domain in your company name, the hosting and DNS logins with you. If any of it lives in the agency's account, leaving means rebuilding rather than moving.

Fixed price after scoping

A number before anyone understands the work is a guess that gets corrected later, upward. Expect a scoping call, then a fixed quote you can hold them to.

Something live you can click

Not a slide, not a mockup. A URL that loads. Ask what broke on it and how they found out, because everything breaks and the answer tells you how they operate.

A .com.np they are not billing you for

Nepal's country domain is issued free at register.com.np. An annual line item for one is a charge for paperwork done once. Small thing, but it tells you how the rest of the invoice was built.

Who answers when it breaks at 9pm

Ask what support actually covers, what the response time is, and whether it costs extra. Get it in writing before launch rather than discovering it during an outage.

The local integrations that decide the project

Building for Nepal is not building for anywhere else with the currency changed. Payments are the part that most often goes wrong late, because the sandbox behaves and production does not. eSewa, Khalti, IME Pay and Fonepay each have their own flow, their own settlement timing, and their own failure modes when a user closes the tab mid-payment.

On the Blurkart eyewear store we run Fonepay in its own service, separate from the main application, so a change to the catalogue cannot take checkout down with it. That is the sort of decision worth asking any company about before work starts: not which gateways they support, but what happens to an order when one of them times out halfway through.

The same applies to the parts nobody demos. Devanagari rendering in PDFs and invoices, Bikram Sambat dates next to Gregorian ones, and SMS delivery through Nepali providers all tend to be discovered after launch if they were never specified. Ask early.

Software companies in Kathmandu — frequently asked questions

How do I choose a software company in Kathmandu?

Ask four questions. Who writes the code, a senior engineer or a junior on their first project? Do you own the source code and the domain at handover, in your name? Is the price fixed after a scoping call, or open-ended? And can they show you something live that you can click? Any company worth hiring answers all four without hedging. AntByte Labs has built in Kathmandu since 2022; our live work includes the Blurkart eyewear store, a tour and travel booking platform, and two e-commerce builds.

Where is AntByte Labs located in Kathmandu?

AntByte Labs is registered in Bhaktapur, Bagmati Province, inside the Kathmandu Valley. We work with clients across the valley, including Kathmandu and Lalitpur, as well as the rest of Nepal and international clients, meeting in person or over video calls.

What software services do you offer in Kathmandu?

Custom software (ERP, CRM, SaaS), web development, mobile app development (iOS & Android), e-commerce, AI & machine learning, cloud & DevOps, and digital marketing — all with full source-code ownership and post-launch support.

How much does it cost to build software in Kathmandu?

It depends on scope: a brochure website starts from NPR 25,000, a business website from NPR 40,000, an online store from NPR 60,000, a custom web application from NPR 80,000, and a mobile app from NPR 150,000. Those are floors, not ceilings, and the figure that matters is the fixed quote you get after a scoping call. Every price here is published on our pricing page rather than quoted on request.

Do Kathmandu software companies work with international clients?

Yes. We take remote engagements from outside Nepal, working async-first over Slack and a shared issue tracker with a scheduled call each week. English is the working language of Nepali software teams. On cost, compare our published rates directly rather than trusting a percentage: a custom web application starts at $3,000, which is where a Western agency's discovery phase alone often lands.
